Choosing the Perfect Outfit for Your Next Photo Session
What should I wear to my next photo session? That’s the number one question on everyone’s mind when planning for their upcoming shoot. Here are 5 easy steps to help you decide what to wear for your next time in front of the camera…
As a Greensboro, North Carolina based family and high school senior photographer specializing in capturing your family at every stage from Maternity to newborns to high school seniors and everything in between, I love helping my clients feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera. Here are my expert tips for picking the perfect attire for your photo session in 5 easy steps…

1. Be Yourself.
Don’t try to come up with a whole new look just for a photo session…you will only be disappointed (I promise). At your pre-session consultation, we will talk about your personal style and how that will translate into both what you wear and the location we choose for your photo session. Photo sessions are meant to be a fun and accurate representation of you and your family (even if that means a little more dressed up than normal, it still has to look and feel like you!).

2. Don’t be afraid of color or patterns.
If you love bold colors, wear them. If you prefer neutral tones, play with subtle patterns and different textures. It is true that large logos, text, or extremely bold prints can take attention away from your face and the emotion in the image, but we will go through all of your outfit choices before your session to make sure that your personality shines through in your images…even in your clothing!

3. Don’t worry about matching exactly.
If you’re taking family photos, consider coordinating colors rather than dressing everyone in identical outfits. Aim for a complementary color palette, such as warm autumn hues, soft blues and grays, or pastels. Remember…coordination is key!

4. Express yourself.
Layers and different textures (knit sweaters, linen, lace, etc.) add visual interest to your photos. Bring the extra accessories, wear the fun shoes, add in the extra layers just because and of course don’t forget your child’s favorite lovies either (you won’t regret this decision ever!).

5. Don’t forget about the shoes.
You’ve spent the time and effort to make the whole outfit look great…make sure your feet do too (this is especially easy to forget with children). Avoid sneakers unless they fit the style of your shoot. Neutral boots, dress shoes, or sandals are all great options.
